Position: Gallery Associate

Reports to: Gallery Manager

Pay Rate: $17/hour 

Hours and Benefits:

Part-time, 20-28 hours/week, hourly, non-exempt, PTO, Sick Time, Dental and Vision options

Position Summary: 

Primary responsibilities are customer service, sales, and education which promote and enhance the NC Glass Center’s commitment to excellence and education.  Gallery staff assist with promoting and selling of artwork, customer service, and promotion of our educational, community-based mission.

Responsibilities: 

• - Welcome all customers in a personable and helpful manner.
• - Educate the public on our mission, artworks on display, and artists represented.
• - Assist customers with purchases and providing services such as wrapping and shipping of artwork. 
• - Schedule and book classes.
• - Ensure safety of artwork and gallery cleanliness.
• - Assist with special events, such as exhibition receptions and open houses.
• - Help install exhibitions and retail gallery artwork, which includes painting, repairing walls and pedestals, and hanging didactic information. 
• - Work with other team members to complete tasks in a timely manner. 
• - Answer general questions about studio and classes.
• - Provide administrative support to NCGC’s leadership staff and gallery, including filing, answering emails, and organization of office. 
• - Accepts other duties as assigned. 
• - Flexibility to work around holidays and weekends.
• - Participate in training sessions

Qualifications: 

• - Sales and/or gallery experience preferred.
• - Self-motivated and driven. 
• - Strong multi-tasking skills. 
• - Highly organized and self-motivated. 
• - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
• - Good sense of humor and ability to work in a team-based environment. 
• - Professionalism and a clean, well-groomed appearance. 
• - Ability to engage visitors in a helpful and welcoming manner. 
• - Knowledge of glass techniques and materials or willingness to learn same
• - Ability to work 20-28 hours per week, including at least one weekend day per week
• - Must be able to work in both the heat and minimally heated space throughout the 8-hour or longer work day. 

Working Conditions: 

This position will be based in a hot studio environment and be subject to frequent interruption. This position also requires a great deal of interaction with artists and the public, both in person and via other means of communication.
