Gayle King and Adam Glassman Discover the Hidden Charms of Asheville

From mountaintop views to artisan experiences, Adam and Gayle’s North Carolina escapade proves that this city is a treasure trove of discovery.

In the Blue Ridge Mountains at 2,100 feet above sea level, Asheville, North Carolina, has long been a haven where art meets altitude and craftsmanship mingles with culinary innovation. This vibrant mountain city with a thriving cultural scene became the latest destination for Oprah Daily’s dynamic duo, Gayle King and Adam Glassman.

Their adventure began with a bike ride through the majestic Biltmore—and even the gray skies couldn’t dampen their spirits. At the North Asheville Tailgate Market, where over 60 local producers have been sharing their bounty for more than 45 years, they experienced the local farm-to-table movement.

The North Carolina Arboretum revealed another facet of Asheville’s artistry. Among its 434 acres and 10 miles of hiking trails, they encountered a surprising treasure: 400 bonsai trees, each telling the story of North Carolina's native flora through this ancient Japanese art form.

Adam and Gayle strolled through historic Downtown with Sita Luna of Eating Asheville Tours sampling local delicacies across the dynamic food city. They also stopped to check in on past Oprah's Favorite Things winners, and visited Botiwalla, from Spicewalla founder chef Meherwan Irani, for Indian street food, and at decadent chocolate maker French Broad Chocolate Lounge.

The duo explored the Asheville art scene at East Fork Pottery and met with co-founder Alex Matisse. “I’m crazy about this pottery,” Adam says. “I have seen it through the years, and it is so beautiful.” Later on, they headed to the North Carolina Glass Center's hot shop in Black Mountain, where local artisans transform molten glass into delicate masterpieces.

The adventure finished on a high note at the gorgeous Omni Grove Park Inn, where they crashed another wedding before raising a toast to Asheville on the scenic terrace. It was a fitting end to their exploration of a city that’s the perfect marriage of natural splendor and artistic soul.
